Carbon dioxide is used to carbonate beverages as well as in potable water plants to control accidity (pH). When welding (MAG) low carbon steel CO₂ is used as shielding gas.
For the purity the specification is:
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) > 99.5 %
and impurities:
Carbon monoxide (CO) < 5 ppm
- Nitrogen monoxide (NO) < 2 ppm
- Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) < 2 ppm
- Sulfur compounds (S) < 1 ppm
- Water (H2O) < 60 ppm
For carbon dioxide (CO2) the following is valid:
- 1 nm3 = 1.81 kg
- 1 kg = 0.55 nm3
- 1 bar = 14.5 psi
- 1 nm3 = 35.3 ft3
- 1 kg = 2.2 lbs
