Description

NALFLEET Brine Corrosion Inhibitor – Advanced Protection for Brine Cooling Systems

NALFLEET Brine Corrosion Inhibitor is a high-performance corrosion protection chemical specifically developed for brine cooling systems operating under both low and high temperature conditions. The formulation delivers reliable, long-term protection for carbon steel and most other metals without the need for supplementary additives.

In addition, the product is fully compatible with systems containing chromates and can be introduced without causing precipitation or operational disruption. This makes it an ideal solution for vessels and installations transitioning away from traditional chromate-based corrosion protection.

Key Features

  • Specially formulated for brine cooling and refrigeration systems

  • Provides effective multi-metal corrosion protection

  • Performs efficiently across a wide temperature range

  • Compatible with existing chromate-containing systems

Benefits

  • Enables replacement of chromate-based corrosion inhibitors

  • Reduces corrosion-related failures and maintenance costs

  • Supports safe and stable system operation without additional supplements

Application & Dosing Instructions

The recommended dosage of NALFLEET™ Brine Corrosion Inhibitor is 17.5 litres per tonne of brine in the system. The product may be added directly to the system either neat or diluted with water.
For dilution, evaporated or demineralised water should always be used.

When using a chemical dosing pump, all wetted parts should be manufactured from compatible materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, Teflon, polyethylene, PVC, polypropylene, or rubber.

Conversion from Chromate-Based Systems

NALFLEET™ Brine Corrosion Inhibitor is fully compatible with chromate-treated systems, meaning system flushing is not required prior to conversion. Existing chromate levels should be allowed to deplete naturally.

During conversion:

  • Maintain a minimum boron concentration of 70 ppm

  • Introduce the inhibitor gradually, starting with 5–10% of the total dosage

  • Monitor the system for foaming and increase the feed rate progressively

At normal operating concentrations, the product does not cause foaming. However, rapid overdosing may result in temporary foam formation.

Monitoring, Testing & Control

System control is carried out by measuring boron concentration, which should be maintained within the range of 70–100 ppm.

Because brine density varies with concentration, boron levels must be corrected using the following calculation:

Corrected Boron (ppm) = Measured Boron (mg/L) ÷ Brine Specific Gravity

Refer to the attached boron reference table for accurate interpretation.
