COOLTREAT ELC (ANTI-FREEZE) 25 LTR
NALFLEET™ Cooltreat ELC™ is an organic liquid corrosion inhibitor and mono ethylene glycol blend that provides extended life corrosion and anti-freeze protection in closed cooling water systems.
Description
Cooltreat ELC – Long-Life Organic Engine Coolant
Cooltreat ELC is a long-life coolant formulated to protect all common metals in marine and industrial cooling systems. Because it uses aliphatic acid technology, the product is free from nitrites and silicates. As a result, it offers stable, reliable and environmentally friendly corrosion protection for modern engines.
The formula protects ferrous metals, copper alloys and aluminium components, while also remaining fully compatible with seals, hoses and gaskets.
Features
-
Provides corrosion and anti-freeze protection
-
Fully organic technology with low toxicity
-
Strong resistance against cavitation and erosion
-
Compatible with all common non-metallic components
-
Long service life – up to 5 years in closed systems
Benefits
Cooltreat ELC can be used in a wide range of closed recirculating systems, such as:
-
Diesel engine cooling circuits
-
Compressor cooling systems
-
Centralised hot-water heating
-
Auxiliary machinery cooling loops
Because the product protects both metals and non-metallic materials, it ensures cleaner systems and longer component life.

Directions for Use
Cooltreat ELC provides long-life anti-freeze and corrosion protection. To achieve reliable protection, the coolant mixture should contain at least 33% Cooltreat ELC. This provides freezing protection down to –20°C.
In colder climates, mixtures are often 50/50, which protects down to –40°C. You should not exceed 70% concentrate in the mixture. The strongest freeze protection, around –69°C, is reached at 68% Cooltreat ELC.
For best results, always use deionised or distilled water when preparing the coolant solution.
Mixture Table
| Cooltreat ELC (%) | 33 | 40 | 50 | 60 | 68 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical Water (%) | 67 | 60 | 50 | 40 | 32 |
| Freeze Protection (°C) | –20 | –27 | –40 | –55 | –69 |
System Cleaning & Preparation
Cooltreat ELC binds to metal surfaces and forms a thin protective layer. This layer prevents corrosion and stops insulating deposits from forming. For new installations, the cooling system should be cleaned before filling. If light contamination is present, UNITOR™ Commissioning Cleaner removes oil and iron oxides in a single step.
For heavily fouled systems, Wilhelmsen recommends:
-
Degreasing with UNITOR™ Seaclean Plus
-
Acid cleaning with UNITOR™ Descalex to remove scale and rust
-
Draining and flushing before adding the Cooltreat ELC mixture
Systems treated with other coolant types should always be drained, flushed and cleaned before switching to Cooltreat ELC.
