RO MILD ACID CLEANER 25 LTR

NALFLEET™ RO Mild Acid Cleaner is a membrane cleaner specifically designed to remove fouling by iron and light calcium carbonate scaling. The efficacy of RO Mild Acid Cleaner can be enhanced by the addition of RO Alkaline Cleaner to the cleaning solution although some minor pH correction may be necessary.

Description

NALFLEET RO Mild Acid Cleaner – Iron & Scale Removal for RO Membranes

NALFLEET RO Mild Acid Cleaner is a specialized membrane cleaner developed to remove iron fouling and light calcium carbonate scaling from reverse osmosis systems. It is compatible with a wide range of RO membranes and is NSF-certified (ANSI Standard 60) for drinking water treatment applications.

Because of its mild acidic formulation, the cleaner is safe to use when applied according to membrane manufacturer guidelines. It helps restore permeate flow, stabilise salt rejection and prevent unnecessary downtime caused by membrane fouling.

Directions for Use

When to Clean

RO membranes foul gradually due to iron, scale and other deposits. Clean the system whenever:

  • Normalized permeate flow drops by 10–15 %, or

  • Salt rejection decreases by 10–15 %, or

  • Differential pressure increases by 10–15 %

Cleaning at the correct interval prevents severe fouling and protects membrane integrity.

Cleaning Method

  1. Prepare a 4 % cleaning solution using chlorine-free permeate water.

    • Mix 1 kg RO Mild Acid Cleaner with 25 kg water.

    • The solution stabilises at ~pH 3.6.

  2. Feed the solution using a closed feed system (no atmospheric exposure).

  3. Circulate for 2–3 hours, depending on the fouling level.

  4. If the solution becomes brown/red, replace it immediately — this indicates exhaustion.

  5. After cleaning, neutralize the spent solution using an alkaline product before disposal.

  6. Flush the RO system thoroughly with permeate water until the pH matches the incoming feed water.

  7. Return the RO system to normal operation.

Improved Performance

The cleaning effect can be enhanced by adding NALFLEET™ RO Alkaline Cleaner to the solution. Minor pH adjustment may be required.

Storage Recommendations

  • Store above 15°C

  • Below this temperature, precipitation may occur

  • Restore product clarity by warming to above 15°C before use

Success Factors for RO Membrane Cleaning

Effective cleaning depends on several operational practices:

  • Clean membranes before fouling becomes severe

  • Follow manufacturer guidelines for both pH and temperature

  • Maintain regular cleaning intervals to reduce downtime

  • Address both iron fouling and carbonate scaling early

  • Avoid allowing deposits to harden, as this makes cleaning difficult

A consistent cleaning schedule can deliver a 100–250% ROI, as it lowers pump pressure, improves water production and extends membrane life.
